History
The M4 Sherman became the principal medium tank of the United States and Allied forces during the Second World War. Continuous battlefield development led to improved variants with stronger armament, upgraded armour, and better suspension systems.
The M4A3 76W HVSS variant introduced the 76mm gun to improve anti-tank capability against increasingly heavily armoured German vehicles. The addition of Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension also improved ride quality, crew comfort, and cross-country performance.
These late-war Shermans saw extensive service during the final campaigns in Europe and remained in military service with many nations long after the war ended. Their reliability, mobility, and ease of production made the Sherman one of the most influential tanks of the twentieth century.
The M4A3 76W HVSS became one of the best-known post-war Sherman configurations and appeared in numerous conflicts during the early Cold War era.
