History
The MiG-21 was developed by the Soviet Union during the 1950s as a lightweight supersonic interceptor and fighter aircraft. Designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich bureau, the aircraft became one of the most successful and widely produced jet fighters in history.
The MiG-21MF variant introduced improvements in avionics, radar capability, and weapon systems, allowing the aircraft to operate effectively in both interceptor and ground attack roles. The type served with numerous Warsaw Pact and allied nations throughout the Cold War.
Known for its speed, simplicity, and rugged reliability, the MiG-21 saw combat in conflicts across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Its lightweight delta wing design allowed excellent supersonic performance while maintaining relatively straightforward maintenance requirements.
Even decades after its introduction, upgraded MiG-21 variants continued to serve in several air forces around the world, making it one of the longest-serving jet fighters ever produced.
