Special Hobby SAAB SK-37E Stor-Viggen 1/72 Model Kit

Build the distinctive Swedish SAAB SK-37E Stor-Viggen electronic warfare aircraft with this 1/72 scale model kit from Special Hobby. Developed from the two-seat SK 37 training version of the Viggen, the SK-37E was converted for electronic warfare operations and training, creating one of the more specialised variants of the SAAB 37 family.

The original SAAB 37 Viggen was developed as a versatile platform for the Swedish Air Force, with different versions adapted for attack, training, reconnaissance, anti-ship and fighter roles. The first of seven prototypes flew on 8 February 1967, and the design incorporated advanced electronic equipment for its time, including a built-in computer using integrated circuits.

SK-37E Electronic Warfare Viggen

The SK 37 began as the two-seat fighter training version of the Viggen. Some of these aircraft were later converted to the SK-37E standard for electronic warfare duties and training. Known in Sweden as the Stor-Viggen, this version provides an interesting modelling subject for anyone building Swedish Cold War aircraft or exploring the less familiar variants of the Viggen family.

Special Hobby’s kit is divided across ten sprues, giving the build a substantial selection of components. A distinctive feature of the model is the dashboard, which is supplied as a 3D printed part for added definition in this important cockpit area.

Four Marking Options

Decals and instructions provide a choice of four different aircraft. Two feature the classic multi-colour splinter camouflage associated with the Viggen, while two are finished in a two-tone grey scheme. One of the grey aircraft carries distinctive lightning decoration on the fin, adding another visually striking option for the completed model.
