History: The Sturmgeschütz IV was introduced in late 1943 as a cost-effective alternative to the Panzer IV, using the chassis of the tank fitted with the StuG III superstructure. Armed with a 7.5cm gun, it combined mobility with a low silhouette, making it effective in both offensive and defensive operations. Around 1,000 units were built by the war’s end, serving mainly in panzer divisions and proving effective against both armour and fortified positions on the Eastern and Western fronts.
