Tamiya Plastic Model Kit

Tamiya Mosquito B Mk.IV/PR Mk.IV (1/72)

The Tamiya Mosquito B Mk.IV/PR Mk.IV in 1/72 scale brings to life one of the most versatile and innovative aircraft of the Second World War. Known for its speed, precision, and all-wood construction, the Mosquito served a range of roles from high-speed bombing to long-range reconnaissance. This kit allows modellers to build either the bomber or photo-reconnaissance variant, both of which played vital roles in Britain’s air strategy.

The model features finely moulded components, accurate panel lines, and options to replicate the different equipment used in the B and PR variants. From the clear nose for camera fitment to the bomb bay and undercarriage detailing, this kit reflects the Mosquito’s unique design and construction. Ideal for diorama work or as a display piece, it offers an enjoyable build and an excellent result.

  • 1/72 scale plastic model assembly kit
  • Options to build either B Mk.IV bomber or PR Mk.IV reconnaissance version
  • Authentic surface details and accurate proportions
  • Detailed cockpit and optional bomb load
  • Includes historical decal options

History

Conceived in 1939 by De Havilland, the Mosquito was designed as an unarmed high-speed bomber built almost entirely of wood. Despite initial reluctance from the Air Ministry, its first orders were placed for reconnaissance roles, and later expanded as its potential became clear. The Mosquito PR Mk.I entered service in July 1941, and the B Mk.IV began bombing operations in early 1942.

The Mosquito excelled in daring missions, including the daylight raid on Cairn and the bombing of the Gestapo HQ in Oslo. On 30 January 1943, Mosquitoes interrupted a major Nazi speech in Berlin, showing the aircraft’s unmatched speed and accuracy. Equipped with cameras, the PR Mk.IV was critical in locating high-value targets like the battleship Tirpitz and tracking V2 rocket installations. Despite their extensive use, Mosquitoes sustained surprisingly low losses, cementing their legendary status in RAF history.
