Tamiya Plastic Model Kit
Tamiya P-47D Thunderbolt Razor Back (1/72)
The Republic P-47D Thunderbolt, affectionately known as the “Razorback” due to its distinctive high spine behind the cockpit, was one of the most powerful and robust fighters of World War II. Tamiya’s 1/72 scale kit accurately captures the early production version of this legendary aircraft with high-quality detailing and a faithful representation of its imposing presence.
This model recreates the unique belly contours and sharp fuselage lines using a symmetrical left-right fuselage construction, ensuring a precise fit and realistic finish. The kit features optional parts for two different propeller types, allowing modellers to replicate different aircraft based on the included European and Pacific theatre markings. A wide selection of accessories such as 108-gallon drop tanks, 500lb bombs, and M10 rocket launchers add versatility and realism to your build.
- 1/72 scale plastic assembly kit
- Includes parts for two propeller types
- Accurate razorback fuselage profile
- Ordnance options: bombs, rockets, fuel tanks
- Decals for two different theatre operations
History
The P-47D was developed as a high-altitude escort fighter and ground-attack aircraft for the US Army Air Forces. With its powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine and turbo-supercharger, it excelled at altitude, matching bomber formations deep into enemy territory. Its rugged design and eight .50 calibre machine guns made it devastating in ground-attack roles, especially when fitted with bombs and rockets.
The early “Razorback” version of the P-47D saw action in both European and Pacific theatres. It earned a reputation for durability, often returning home with heavy battle damage that would have grounded other aircraft. Its contribution to the success of Allied bombing campaigns and close support missions was immense, making it one of the most respected fighters of the war.
