German Panther Ausf.D – Sd.Kfz.171 (1/35) 35345
This 1/35 scale Tamiya kit replicates the Panther Ausf.D, the first production version of Germany’s formidable WWII Panther tank. Developed rapidly in response to the Soviet T-34, the Panther aimed to blend powerful firepower, effective sloped armour, and superior mobility. Its debut on the battlefield came during the pivotal Battle of Kursk in 1943, though reliability issues due to rushed production affected early performance.
Armed with the long-barrelled 7.5cm KwK 42 L/70 gun, the Panther was capable of knocking out enemy armour at considerable distances. Its 80mm front sloped armour provided enhanced protection, and the 700hp Maybach engine allowed speeds up to 55km/h, making it both fast and deadly. Despite early teething problems, the Panther would go on to earn a fearsome reputation on both Eastern and Western fronts.
