Tamiya Plastic Model Kit

Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf.N (1/35) 35290

The Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf.N was the final production variant of the Pz.Kpfw.III series, adapted from its original role as a medium battle tank into an infantry support vehicle. Armed with a short-barrelled 75mm KwK 37 L/24 gun taken from earlier Pz.Kpfw.IV models, the Ausf.N provided effective high-explosive firepower against fortifications and soft targets. Between June 1942 and early 1943, approximately 700 units were produced, often serving alongside Tiger I tanks in independent heavy Panzer battalions. From spring 1943, many were fitted with 5mm Schürzen skirt armour for improved protection against anti-tank rifles and shaped charges.

  • 1/35 scale plastic assembly kit with high-accuracy detailing.
  • Includes precision aluminium barrel and detailed breech parts.
  • Two mantlet options and smoke discharger components included.
  • Markings for three versions, including North African service.
  • One tank crew figure with interchangeable headphone or signal pistol poses.
  • Ideal display piece alongside North African campaign vehicles such as the Sd.Kfz.222.

History

The Panzerkampfwagen III was a mainstay of the German armoured forces in the early years of WWII, valued for its reliability and balanced design. However, as enemy tanks became better armed and armoured, the Pz.III chassis could no longer support larger high-velocity weapons without major compromise. To extend its service life, the Ausf.N was introduced as a close-support tank, using the short 75mm gun to fire high-explosive and smoke rounds. Deployed on the Eastern Front, in North Africa, and later in Italy, it often operated in a support role to heavier tanks like the Tiger I, providing protection from infantry and light anti-tank weapons.
