The JS-2 heavy tank was one of the Soviet Union’s most formidable armored vehicles of WWII. Designed to counter the German Tiger I, production began in December 1943, with its most distinctive features being the powerful 122mm D-25T gun and thick armor capable of withstanding the heaviest Axis weapons. By August 1944, a significant design improvement saw the deletion of the frontal glacis hatch, increasing frontal armor protection. Built at the Chelyabinsk Kirov Factory (ChKZ), the JS-2 was widely used in Soviet offensives, breaking through fortified positions and engaging enemy armor with devastating effect.
