The Douglas A-1H Skyraider was a versatile single-seat attack aircraft developed during the final stages of the Second World War. Conceived to merge the roles of torpedo and dive bomber into one airframe, it was powered by the formidable Wright R-3350 radial engine, delivering 2,800 horsepower. The Skyraider featured robust construction, excellent low-speed handling, and three distinctive fuselage-mounted dive brakes.

First flown in March 1945, the Skyraider entered service at the end of that year. Known for its exceptional load-carrying ability and durability, it served extensively with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. The A-1H (formerly AD-6) was the most produced variant, and it earned a reputation for reliability in both naval operations and later conflicts, including the Korean and Vietnam Wars. With over 3,000 built across multiple versions, the Skyraider remains an iconic example of piston-powered combat aircraft design.
