History:

The McDonnell Douglas F-4D Phantom II was a crucial evolution of the legendary Phantom family, introduced to enhance combat flexibility and avionics capabilities during the Vietnam War. It entered service in 1966 as an improved derivative of the earlier F-4C, featuring upgraded radar, weapons systems, and precision strike capabilities.

The F-4D retained the powerful twin J79-GE-15 engines and twin-crew layout, with the aircraft optimised for all-weather strike and air defence missions. It introduced improved radar-guided missile support, including the AIM-4 Falcon, though this system proved less popular in the field compared to AIM-7 and AIM-9 missiles. The type was widely deployed in Southeast Asia, often carrying bombs, napalm, and laser-guided munitions in addition to air-to-air weapons.

Zoukei-Mura’s SWS48-07 kit captures this historically significant variant in exacting detail, from its cockpit and landing gear to the subtle surface details that defined the Phantom’s imposing presence. A must-have for Vietnam-era and Cold War modellers alike, this kit reflects the F-4D’s place in aviation history as a versatile and resilient combat aircraft.
