History:
The Horten Ho 229 was an ambitious jet-powered flying wing developed by Reimar and Walter Horten for Nazi Germany in the final stages of World War II. Aimed at producing a fast, radar-resistant interceptor capable of taking on Allied bombers, the Ho 229 was a highly experimental design combining sleek aerodynamics with stealth-focused engineering.
Powered by twin Junkers Jumo 004 turbojet engines and constructed primarily from wood and composite materials, the aircraft featured a tailless silhouette designed to reduce radar cross-section. The Ho 229 was armed with 30mm MK 108 cannons and was capable of reaching speeds over 970 km/h (600 mph), an impressive feat for its time.
Despite its promise, the Ho 229 project never advanced beyond the prototype stage. Only a few were partially completed before the war ended. The surviving V3 prototype was captured by U.S. forces and now resides at the Smithsonian’s Udvar-Hazy Center.
Zoukei-Mura’s twin-scale kit pays tribute to this revolutionary aircraft, allowing modellers to build two versions—one for fine detail, the other for compact display. It’s a perfect set for aviation historians, sci-fi fans, or anyone fascinated by the aircraft that helped inspire modern stealth technology.
