The McDonnell Douglas F-4E Phantom II was a mainstay of the United States Air Force during the Cold War, and the late variant brought numerous upgrades that extended its battlefield relevance well into the 1980s. Fitted with an internal M61 Vulcan cannon, improved avionics, and reinforced airframe features, the F-4E Late variant saw extensive action in Southeast Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, serving with distinction in both air superiority and ground attack roles.

This Zoukei-Mura 1/48 scale kit offers an exceptionally detailed model of the F-4E Late Phantom II, including surface rivets, detailed cockpit layout, and accurately reproduced engine nozzles and landing gear bays. The kit also includes a full set of armament options such as AIM-9 Sidewinders, AIM-7 Sparrows, and external fuel tanks, plus decals for multiple USAF marking options.

History:

Introduced in the 1960s, the F-4E was the most numerous Phantom II variant produced. It was the first to incorporate an internal cannon—solving one of the main drawbacks of earlier F-4 models. Throughout the Vietnam War and into the Cold War period, the F-4E provided the USAF with a versatile platform capable of engaging both air and ground targets. Its avionics package was improved throughout its service life, culminating in late versions that featured upgraded radar, leading-edge slats for improved manoeuvrability, and compatibility with a broader range of ordnance. Many F-4Es served with NATO allies and other nations around the globe, making it one of the most widely deployed and respected multirole fighters of its era.
