History:

The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was one of the most important American bombers of World War II. The Memphis Belle, a B-17F, gained fame as one of the first heavy bombers to complete 25 combat missions over Europe with its crew intact. Named after pilot Robert Morgan’s fiancée from Memphis, Tennessee, the aircraft became a symbol of American resilience and determination. After its historic missions, the Memphis Belle returned to the United States for a morale-boosting tour. Today, the restored aircraft is preserved at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, where it continues to inspire as a reminder of the courage and sacrifice of the crews who flew the daylight bombing missions of WWII.
