Originally commissioned into the Royal Navy in 1941 and one of two corvettes later assigned to Free Belgian Forces, Buttercup passed to Royal Norwegian Navy control at the end of 1944 after Belgium was liberated and served throughout the remainder of WWII in Norwegian service.
