History
The Grumman E-2 Hawkeye first entered service with the US Navy in the 1960s and has remained a vital part of carrier air wings. Its powerful radar and command-and-control systems give fleets extended surveillance and coordination capabilities. The E-2C variant, introduced in the 1970s, improved avionics, engines, and mission endurance, enabling better threat detection and tracking over sea and land. Squadrons such as VAW-113 “Black Eagles” and VAW-126 “Seahawks” deployed aboard carriers like the USS Carl Vinson and USS Enterprise, supporting combat and patrol missions worldwide. Japan also adopted the Hawkeye, with the JASDF operating E-2Cs for national air defence well into the 21st century. The E-2C’s adaptability and reliability have ensured its place as one of the longest-serving airborne early warning platforms in aviation history.
