History:
Commissioned in 1961, USS Enterprise (CVN-65) was the United States Navy’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and the longest warship ever built at the time. Known as the “Big E,” the Enterprise served for over 50 years, participating in key Cold War, Vietnam War, and Gulf War operations. Her eight nuclear reactors gave her unprecedented endurance and operational range, setting her apart from conventionally powered carriers. As a flagship of US naval power, she carried a wide range of aircraft and represented the cutting edge of carrier aviation until her decommissioning in 2017. The Enterprise remains an icon of 20th-century naval history and a symbol of American maritime strength.
