History:
The Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet entered service in the late 1990s as the US Navy’s primary carrier-based strike fighter, replacing the F-14 Tomcat and supplementing earlier Hornet variants. VFA-195 “Dambusters,” based at Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan, is one of the most recognisable squadrons to fly the type, particularly for their bold “Chippy Ho” special livery. Renowned for its multirole capability, the F/A-18E can perform fleet defence, strike missions, and close air support with equal effectiveness. The Chippy Ho scheme has become a favourite among aviation enthusiasts, symbolising the squadron’s heritage and the modern power of the US Navy’s carrier air wings.
