History:
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21, NATO reporting name “Fishbed,” was among the most widely produced supersonic jet fighters in history, serving with over 50 air forces worldwide. The MF variant, introduced in the late 1960s, featured upgraded avionics and the powerful R-13-300 engine, enhancing its combat capabilities. Poland, a Warsaw Pact member, operated the MiG-21 MF extensively during the Cold War, using it as the backbone of its air defence forces. Fast, agile, and capable of Mach 2 speeds, the MiG-21 became a symbol of Soviet military aviation. In Polish service, it flew well into the 1990s, bridging the gap between early Cold War fighters and more modern interceptors. Academy’s 1/48 kit captures this Cold War icon with fine detail and historically accurate markings.
