History
The Nieuport 17, introduced in early 1916, was one of the most celebrated French fighters of World War I. Renowned for its agility and lightweight sesquiplane design, it became a favourite of Allied aces such as Georges Guynemer and Charles Nungesser. Armed with a synchronized Vickers gun and, in some cases, an over-wing Lewis gun, the Nieuport 17 combined firepower with nimble handling. It served with French, British, Italian, Belgian, and Russian air forces, playing a key role in maintaining Allied air superiority during 1916–1917. Its success influenced fighter development across Europe and cemented its place in aviation history as one of the most iconic aircraft of the era.
