History
The M4A3E8 Sherman, popularly known as the “Easy Eight,” was a late-war development of America’s most produced medium tank. Equipped with the Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension (HVSS), wider tracks, and a high-velocity 76mm gun, it represented a significant improvement in mobility and firepower. One of the most famous examples was “Thunderbolt VII,” commanded by Colonel Creighton Abrams of the 37th Tank Battalion, 4th Armored Division. Abrams’ tank became legendary for its effectiveness during the European campaigns of 1944–45, reflecting the adaptability and reliability of the Sherman platform. The Thunderbolt series of tanks bore distinctive markings and improvised armour, further distinguishing them in combat. Today, Thunderbolt VII remains a symbol of American armoured strength and leadership during WWII.
