History:
The Panzerkampfwagen V Panther was one of the most important German tanks of the Second World War, entering service in 1943. Designed to counter the Soviet T-34, the Panther combined excellent firepower, armour protection, and mobility, becoming one of the most respected tanks of the conflict. The Panther A variant featured improved armour and a more reliable transmission, making it a formidable opponent on the battlefield.
To maintain such heavy vehicles in combat, the German army employed specialised equipment such as the Strabokran, a mobile gantry crane capable of lifting up to 16 tonnes. This crane could be quickly assembled in the field and was essential for removing tank turrets, engines, or other heavy components during repairs or upgrades. The combination of the Panther and Strabokran highlights the logistical sophistication behind Germany’s armoured forces, allowing them to keep their powerful vehicles operational under difficult wartime conditions.
