Tamiya Plastic Model Kit
Honda RA273 Formula 1 Car (1/12) 12032
1/12 scale plastic model kit of the Honda RA273 Formula 1 car, re-issued by Tamiya with updated packaging, revised instructions, and additional reference material. This release updates the earlier 2015 edition by adding tyre engraving paint guidance and a newly included A3 double-sided pamphlet featuring photographs of the full-size car.
The kit offers an in-depth representation of the RA273, including a highly detailed V12 engine complete with fuel piping, ignition cabling, and twelve aluminium air funnels. Coil springs are used on both the front and rear suspension to provide smooth, realistic movement, while the steering wheel is linked to the front wheels. A removable nose cowling allows inspection of internal components such as the radiator, reinforcing the mechanical focus of the model.
Photo-etched parts are included to reproduce brake discs, the radiator, oil cooler, and steering wheel spokes, while metal transfers are used for side mirror surfaces and instrument rings. The kit also includes a driver figure and three marking options, making it suitable for an accurate period-correct display straight from the box.

History: Honda’s Formula 1 programme began with a bold decision to enter the sport as a full factory team, designing and building both chassis and engine in-house. After debuting in 1964, Honda faced a major challenge when new regulations introduced 3-litre engines for the 1966 season. The RA273 was developed to meet these requirements, featuring a powerful V12 engine that reflected Honda’s engineering-first philosophy. In 1967, John Surtees replaced Richie Ginther as lead driver, and the improved RA273 demonstrated its potential by securing a third-place finish at the South African Grand Prix. Although short-lived, the RA273 marked an important step in Honda’s Formula 1 development and laid the groundwork for future success.
