History
The McDonnell-Douglas F/A-18 Hornet was introduced in the late 1970s as a multirole combat aircraft for the US Navy and Marine Corps. The A+ variant, an upgraded version of the F/A-18A, received structural improvements and avionics updates to extend its service life. VMFA-232, known as the “Red Devils,” is the oldest and most decorated active fighter squadron in the Marine Corps, with a history dating back to World War I. During the jet era, the squadron flew the Hornet extensively, participating in operations around the globe including the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
