The M1A1 Ward La France Heavy Wrecker was a robust 6×6 vehicle designed for recovering damaged or stuck armoured vehicles, trucks, and artillery pieces. Built by the Ward La France Truck Company, it was part of the US Armys standardised system of support vehicles, playing a critical role in logistics and battlefield repair operations. With its heavy-duty crane and 20,000 lb winch, the M1A1 proved essential from the beaches of Normandy to the jungles of the Pacific. Many were also supplied to Allied forces under Lend-Lease, including Britain and the Soviet Union.
