History:
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat entered US Navy service in the early 1970s as a supersonic, twin-engine, carrier-based fighter with variable-geometry wings. Designed for fleet defence and long-range interception, it became one of the most recognisable US fighters of the Cold War era. VF-2 “Bounty Hunters,” established in 1972, was among the first squadrons to operate the Tomcat, flying from carriers such as USS Enterprise. The F-14A played a vital role in protecting carrier battle groups until its retirement in 2006, cementing its place as an icon of naval aviation.
