History:
On 6 June 1944, Allied forces launched the largest amphibious invasion in history, supported by massive air power. The Republic P-47D Thunderbolt, with its rugged design and powerful armament, played a critical role in ground attack and bomber escort missions during the Normandy campaign. At the same time, German fighters such as the Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-8 sought to resist the Allied advance. Oberstleutnant Josef Priller’s lone strafing run over Sword Beach became one of the most famous Luftwaffe sorties of D-Day. This Academy kit brings together these two iconic fighters, allowing modellers to recreate the dramatic aerial opposition that marked the skies over Normandy in June 1944.
