History:
The Fairchild Republic A-10A Thunderbolt II, affectionately known as the “Warthog,” was introduced in the late 1970s as a specialised close air support aircraft. Built around the massive GAU-8 Avenger 30mm cannon, the A-10 was designed to destroy tanks and provide direct support to ground forces. Its heavily armoured cockpit and redundant systems gave it legendary survivability, even under heavy fire. The A-10A saw extensive action during the Gulf War, where it proved devastatingly effective against Iraqi armour, and later in conflicts such as Iraq and Afghanistan. Renowned for its durability, loitering capability, and precision firepower, the A-10A remains a symbol of USAF ground support strength.
