History
The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon, later produced by Lockheed Martin, entered service in the late 1970s as a lightweight, multirole fighter. The F-16C variant introduced upgraded avionics, radar, and weapon systems, ensuring the aircraft remained a core component of U.S. and allied air forces. The Arkansas Air National Guard’s 188th Fighter Wing, known as the ‘Flying Razorbacks’, operated the F-16C for both homeland defence and overseas deployments. Distinguished by its striking tail art featuring the Razorback hog, the unit contributed to training exercises and combat operations before transitioning to other missions in the 21st century. The F-16 remains one of the most widely used fighters worldwide, valued for its agility, versatility, and combat record.
