History
The Panzer IV was the backbone of German armoured forces throughout World War II, with over 8,500 units produced in various versions. The Ausf H, introduced in 1943, featured thickened armour and the long-barrelled 7.5cm KwK 40 L/48 gun, making it a formidable opponent against Allied tanks. Additional protection came from the installation of Schürzen side skirts, designed to counter anti-tank rifles and shaped-charge weapons. By 1944, the Panzer IV Ausf H saw service on all fronts, including the battles in France following D-Day, the Eastern Front during Soviet offensives, and the Warsaw Uprising in Poland. Despite being increasingly outclassed by newer Allied tanks, the Panzer IV continued to fight effectively until the war’s end, cementing its place as one of the most iconic tanks of the conflict.
