History:
The Yamato-class battleships were the heaviest and most powerfully armed battleships ever constructed, symbolising the Imperial Japanese Navy’s doctrine of decisive fleet engagements. Yamato herself was commissioned in 1941 and fought in several operations before being sunk in April 1945 during Operation Ten-Go. In this “parallel world” interpretation, the Yamato survives the war and undergoes extensive post-war modifications, reimagined as a modernised battleship in 1965. Such alternate history concepts often explore how iconic warships might have evolved had they continued to serve, incorporating upgraded systems, improved weaponry, and Cold War-era adaptations. This kit reflects that creative vision, allowing builders to explore both the history and the “what if” of one of the most famous warships ever built.
