History: The 4-gallon ‘flimsies’ were lightweight petrol tins used extensively by British forces during the early years of World War II. Though quick to produce, their thin metal construction made them prone to leaking and damage, leading to the development of the sturdier ‘jerry can’ design later in the war. Despite their flaws, flimsies played a vital role in maintaining fuel supplies across challenging theatres such as North Africa and Europe, symbolising the improvisation and logistical challenges faced by Allied troops.
