History
The Bell UH-1 Iroquois, more commonly known as the Huey, became one of the most recognisable aircraft of the twentieth century. Originally developed in the late 1950s, it quickly proved its value as a versatile, reliable helicopter capable of performing a wide range of roles.
The UH-1H variant saw extensive service during the Vietnam War, where it was used for troop transport, medical evacuation, command and control and supply missions. Its ability to operate from rough landing zones and respond quickly made it indispensable in the demanding conditions of the conflict. The Huey’s silhouette and sound became inseparable from the era, and its influence on modern helicopter operations continues to be felt long after its frontline service.
