IBG Models Plastic Model Kit
Cromwell Mk IV British Tank (Hull Type C) – Deep Wading (1/72)
This kit brings the Cromwell Mk IV to 1/72 scale with its distinctive Deep Wading equipment, giving the model that purposeful look associated with the Normandy landings and early post-invasion operations. IBG’s moulding is sharp, with the angular turret, engine deck and hull Type C features all captured cleanly. Even in this smaller scale the mesh screens, ducts and fittings that define the wading configuration stand out nicely without overwhelming the build.
The running gear builds up with a calm, steady rhythm, and the link-and-length tracks fit neatly around the suspension. Surface textures are fine and restrained, leaving plenty of room for weathering and dust effects that suit a tank working its way inland from the beaches. Once complete, the model has that compact but convincing presence that makes the Cromwell such a favourite among British armour modellers.

History
The Cromwell Mk IV was one of the principal British cruiser tanks of the Second World War, valued for its speed, reliability and the performance of its 75mm gun. In preparation for Operation Overlord, many Cromwells were fitted with Deep Wading gear: tall air intake and exhaust trunks designed to let the tank leave landing craft and cross shallow coastal waters without flooding the engine compartment.
These modified vehicles took part in the push inland following the D-Day landings, serving with armoured brigades and reconnaissance units. The Cromwell’s agility made it well suited to the fast-moving battles that developed across the bocage and later during the breakout into open country. The Deep Wading version stands today as a recognisable link between the tank’s engineering strengths and the demanding conditions of the Normandy invasion.
