IBG Models Plastic Model Kit
PZL M18 Dromader – Firefighter Aircraft in Greek Service (1/48)
This 1/48 scale plastic model kit from IBG Models represents the PZL M18 Dromader configured for aerial firefighting duties in Greek service. While originally designed as an agricultural aircraft, the Dromader’s strength, payload capacity, and low-speed handling made it well suited to fire suppression roles in challenging terrain.
The kit captures the aircraft’s distinctive shape, with its broad wings, reinforced structure, and prominent single-engine layout. Surface detail reflects the robust, utilitarian nature of the airframe, while the firefighting configuration gives the finished model a striking appearance that stands apart from both military and agricultural subjects.
Firefighting aircraft often show heavy wear from constant operation in harsh environments. This makes the Dromader an appealing subject for weathering, with opportunities to depict heat staining, operational grime, and sun-faded paint typical of aircraft working long hours during wildfire seasons.

History
The PZL M18 Dromader was originally developed in Poland as an agricultural aircraft, but its solid construction and ability to carry heavy loads quickly attracted interest for alternative roles. One of the most demanding of these was aerial firefighting, where reliability and low-speed stability are essential.
In Greece, the Dromader was used to support firefighting efforts in mountainous regions and forested areas prone to seasonal wildfires. Operating in high temperatures and turbulent air, the aircraft played a vital role in early response and containment, often flying multiple sorties in a single day.
Although later supplemented and replaced by larger and more specialised firefighting aircraft, the Dromader earned a reputation as a dependable and effective tool. Its service highlights how a straightforward agricultural design could be adapted to meet critical civilian needs.
