History:
The M3 Bradley was developed in the late 1970s as part of the U.S. Army’s effort to modernise its mechanised reconnaissance and infantry support fleet. Combining speed, armour, and heavy firepower, it was equipped with a 25mm M242 Bushmaster autocannon, a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun, and twin TOW anti-tank missile launchers capable of engaging main battle tanks at range. The vehicle’s advanced optics, night vision, and communication systems allowed cavalry crews to operate effectively in varied combat conditions. Serving alongside the M2 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle, the M3 played a key role in reconnaissance operations from the Cold War through to the Gulf War and beyond, embodying the versatility and technological sophistication of the U.S. Army’s mechanised forces.
