History:
The Martin B-26 Marauder was a twin-engine medium bomber used extensively by the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. Introduced in 1941, it was designed for speed and efficiency, though it initially earned a reputation for being difficult to fly. As pilots gained experience and improvements were made, the Marauder developed into one of the most reliable medium bombers of the war. The most famous of these, ‘Flak Bait,’ flew more than 200 combat missions over Europe, surviving relentless anti-aircraft fire and enemy fighters. Operating primarily in the European Theatre, Marauders of the 322nd Bombardment Group played a crucial role in softening German defences before and after the D-Day landings. With its distinctive design and combat record, the B-26 remains a symbol of resilience and determination in aerial warfare history.
