History
The Bugatti Type 41 “Royale” stands as one of the most ambitious and prestigious automobiles ever created. Built between 1929 and 1933, only six examples were produced, each sharing the same chassis and record-breaking 12.7-litre engine. The Royale was intended for royalty and heads of state, though the economic realities of the era limited its customer base. Its scale, craftsmanship and engineering made it a symbol of luxury far beyond anything else available at the time.
The Coupé Napoleon was the first in chassis order and became Ettore Bugatti’s personal car, finished in a sophisticated two-tone scheme and fitted with sumptuous interior trim. Today, it remains one of the centrepieces of the Musée National de l’Automobile in Mulhouse, France, regarded as one of the crown jewels of early 20th-century automotive history.
