Italeri Plastic Model Kit
M32 Recovery Vehicle (1/35)
This 1/35 scale M32 Recovery Vehicle from Italeri represents the specialised armoured recovery platform developed during World War II to support front-line armoured units. Built on the Sherman A-4 chassis, the M32 replaced the turret with a heavy superstructure and lifting gear, transforming it into a mobile battlefield workshop capable of recovering and repairing damaged tanks under combat conditions.
The kit captures the distinctive crane structure, recovery equipment, and stowage that defined the M32’s role, making it an ideal subject for dioramas or support vehicle displays alongside Allied armour.

History
Armoured Recovery Vehicles were introduced during World War II to retrieve and repair damaged fighting vehicles directly on the battlefield. The American M32 was developed from the Sherman medium tank, removing the turret and installing lifting equipment, towing gear, and extensive onboard tools.
Designed to operate close to the front lines, the M32 could recover disabled tanks, carry spare parts, and even perform major repairs such as engine replacements. Its crane-equipped superstructure allowed crews to lift heavy components while remaining protected by armour.
The M32 served extensively in the European Theatre during WWII and continued in US service through the Korean War. It was later adopted by several countries and remained operational into the 1990s, proving the long-term value of its rugged design. For modellers, it offers a compelling look at the vital logistical backbone behind armoured warfare.
