Italeri Plastic Model Kit
Macchi MC.200 Saetta (1/32)
This 1/32 scale Macchi MC.200 Saetta from Italeri is a fully new-tooled kit that captures one of Italy’s most important early-war fighters with sharp, modern engineering. The model reflects the clean lines and distinctive bulged cowling of the real aircraft, supported by crisp surface detail and refined moulding. At 25.8 cm in length, the finished build has a confident presence and offers plenty of room for subtle detailing.
The kit includes a comprehensive accessory set: 3D instrument decals, a dedicated masking sheet, a photo-etched fret for finer external and cockpit details, and a fasteners bag. A large decal sheet provides markings for six different aircraft, covering a range of theatres where the MC.200 served. With its all-new tooling and carefully designed parts breakdown, this kit provides a rewarding build for modellers interested in Italian WWII aviation.

History
The Macchi MC.200 Saetta was a major step forward for the Regia Aeronautica, replacing the biplane fighters that still made up much of Italy’s front-line strength at the beginning of the Second World War. Designed by Mario Castoldi, the MC.200 introduced an all-metal monoplane layout and a robust 14-cylinder radial engine capable of around 500 km/h. While dependable and manoeuvrable, the aircraft was underpowered compared to Allied fighters and hampered by light armament consisting initially of only two 12.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns.
Despite its limitations, the MC.200 served widely across multiple fronts, including North Africa, the Mediterranean, the Balkans and the Eastern Front. Later versions added wing-mounted guns to improve firepower, and the type continued in front-line and training roles throughout the conflict. Its distinctive profile and important place in Italian aviation history make it a popular subject for modellers.
