Italeri Plastic Model Kit
Pz. Kpfw. V Panther Ausf. D (1/35)
The Panzerkampfwagen V Panther is widely regarded as one of the most significant armoured fighting vehicles of the Second World War. Developed as a direct response to the Soviet T-34 and KV-1 tanks encountered on the Eastern Front, the Panther was designed to address the shortcomings of the Panzer III and Panzer IV in terms of armour protection, mobility, and firepower.
Powered by a 700-horsepower Maybach V-12 engine, the Panther combined impressive speed with strong cross-country performance. Its main armament, the high-velocity 75 mm KwK 42 gun, proved extremely effective in the anti-tank role, capable of engaging enemy armour at long ranges. The adoption of sloped frontal armour significantly improved protection without excessive increases in weight, giving the vehicle a well-balanced overall design.

The Ausf. D was the first version of the Panther to enter operational service and saw action across multiple theatres, including the Eastern Front, Italy, and Western Europe. Early examples suffered from mechanical reliability issues, but the fundamental design showed enormous potential and quickly influenced later German tank development.
Despite its early teething problems, the Panther’s combination of firepower, protection, and mobility has led many historians to consider it one of the most effective tanks of the Second World War. Its battlefield impact and distinctive appearance have ensured its lasting reputation as one of the defining armoured vehicles of the conflict.
