OcCre Wooden Ship Model Kit
Golden Hind (1/85) 12003
The Golden Hind is one of the most famous sailing ships in British naval history, known for carrying Sir Francis Drake on the first English circumnavigation of the globe. Originally launched as the Pelican, the ship was renamed Golden Hind before entering the Straits of Magellan, in honour of Sir Christopher Hatton, one of the expedition’s patrons, whose coat of arms featured a golden hind, a female deer.
Between 1577 and 1580, Drake and his crew travelled more than 40,000 miles, raiding Spanish settlements and ships along the way before returning to England with vast riches. The journey made Drake a national hero, and in 1581 Queen Elizabeth I knighted him on the deck of the Golden Hind itself, turning the ship into a lasting symbol of exploration, ambition, and maritime power.

History
The Golden Hind’s circumnavigation was one of the most daring voyages of the 16th century. Sailing through uncharted waters, violent storms, and hostile territories, Drake proved that English ships could compete with the great maritime powers of Spain and Portugal. His journey reshaped England’s view of itself as a seafaring nation and helped open the door to future exploration and trade.
Long after the original ship was lost, the name Golden Hind remains closely tied to the idea of adventure and the age of sail. This OcCre model allows you to recreate that legendary vessel in miniature, capturing the look and spirit of a ship that quite literally sailed around the world.
