History
Introduced in the 1960s, the Chieftain was designed around a powerful rifled gun and heavy frontal armour, prioritising firepower and protection over outright speed. It served extensively with the British Army of the Rhine and other units during the tense decades of the Cold War.
The Mk 11 incorporated further defensive improvements and updates based on operational experience. Although eventually replaced by newer designs, the Chieftain remains a significant milestone in British armoured development.
For modellers, the Mk 11 offers the chance to build a definitive British Cold War tank, with its angular turret, layered armour, and unmistakable presence on the display shelf.
