Takom Plastic Model Kit
WWI Medium Tank Mk A Whippet (1/35)
This 1/35 scale Mk A Whippet from Takom recreates Britain’s fast medium tank developed during the First World War to exploit breakthroughs made by heavier tanks. Compact, agile, and unmistakably early-industrial in appearance, the Whippet represents an important step forward in armoured warfare, introducing speed and manoeuvre to the battlefield.
The kit includes seven sprues, pre-cut workable tracks, and a small photo-etched fret for added detail. Movable wheels are provided, and eight marking options allow you to build a variety of operational vehicles. Designed with practicality in mind, Takom’s track system helps simplify assembly while still delivering a realistic finished look.

History
The Mk A Whippet entered service in 1918 as a faster companion to Britain’s heavy tanks. While earlier designs focused on breaking through enemy lines, the Whippet was intended to exploit those breakthroughs, using its higher speed to harass rear areas, disrupt communications, and engage retreating forces.
Powered by twin engines and operated by a small crew, the Whippet proved capable of covering ground quickly by WWI standards, giving Allied forces a glimpse of how mobile armoured warfare might evolve. Though it arrived late in the conflict, its success helped shape future thinking around medium tanks and combined arms tactics.
Today, the Whippet stands as a milestone in armoured development, bridging the gap between slow trench-crossing machines and the more balanced tanks that would dominate later conflicts. This kit captures that transitional moment nicely, offering a distinctive WWI subject that looks great on its own or alongside early heavy tanks.
