History
The Panzer III formed the backbone of German armoured forces during the early and mid stages of World War II. By the time the Ausf M variant entered service, battlefield experience had driven a series of upgrades aimed at improving survivability.
The Ausf M introduced factory-fitted Schürzen armour plates along the hull sides and turret, offering additional protection against anti-tank rifles and infantry weapons. These modifications reflected the growing threat posed by Allied infantry anti-armour tactics, particularly on the Eastern Front.
Although eventually overshadowed by heavier designs, the Panzer III Ausf M remained an important combat vehicle, serving in multiple theatres. For modellers, it represents a transitional period in German tank development, combining classic Panzer III lines with late-war defensive enhancements.
