Tamiya Plastic Model Kit
Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 Late Model (1/48)
This kit represents the late production form of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6, released as a variation of Tamiya’s earlier G-6 early model. Built on the same extensively researched airframe, this 1/48 scale model introduces newly tooled parts to accurately depict the refinements seen on later aircraft, making it ideal for builders interested in subtle but historically important differences.
The distinctive engine cowlings of the late model are faithfully recreated, including the revised bulge and air scoop beneath the right side of the nose and the modified machine gun access panels. Engine cowlings can be displayed open or closed, and remain interchangeable even after assembly. The Erla Haube canopy, with its reduced framing for improved pilot visibility, is also included as newly moulded clear parts.

History
With more than 30,000 aircraft produced, the Messerschmitt Bf 109 remains the most widely manufactured fighter aircraft in history. The G-6 variant was the most numerous of all, with approximately 13,000 built from mid 1943 onwards. It introduced revised engine cowlings to accommodate heavier armament, resulting in the distinctive bulged appearance that became a hallmark of the type.
Late production G-6 aircraft incorporated further refinements, including the Erla Haube canopy for improved visibility and the option to carry 21cm rocket launchers to counter Allied heavy bomber formations. Deployed on both the Western and Eastern Fronts, the Bf 109 G-6 remained a frontline fighter through to the final months of the Second World War.
