History:
The M41 Walker Bulldog was introduced in the early 1950s as a replacement for the ageing M24 Chaffee light tank. Designed with improved firepower and mobility, it carried a powerful 76mm gun and was intended to provide rapid response and reconnaissance support. The tank was named after General Walton Walker, who commanded U.S. forces during the Korean War. Compact, lightweight, and air-transportable, the M41 became an essential vehicle for mechanised units. It served with the U.S. Army and was also exported widely to allied nations, including Japan, where it was adopted by the Japan Ground Self Defence Force. The M41 remained in service for decades, influencing subsequent light tank development and leaving a significant mark on Cold War armoured warfare.
