History
The Faun SLT 50-3 Elefant was developed in the 1970s as a heavy-duty military transporter to meet the needs of the Bundeswehr. Designed by Faun, it was capable of hauling Germany’s Leopard main battle tanks and other heavy equipment, with the SaAnh 52-tonne trailer providing the carrying capacity required for modern armoured warfare. The combination proved highly successful, remaining in service for decades as a reliable logistics vehicle. The Elefant played a key role in the mobility of German armoured formations during the Cold War and beyond, ensuring rapid deployment of tanks and heavy vehicles where they were most needed. Its rugged design, impressive power, and distinctive appearance have made it an enduring symbol of German military engineering.
