Trumpeter Plastic Model Kit
US Navy USS Stevens DD-479 Fletcher Class Destroyer (1/200)
This 1/200 scale USS Stevens DD-479 kit from Trumpeter offers a detailed build of one of the famed Fletcher-class destroyers of the US Navy. The kit includes more than 490 parts arranged across 13 sprues, plus dedicated hull and deck sections that give the model a strong and accurate foundation. Photo-etch parts are included to refine railings, radar details and finer structural elements, while a display stand is provided for a clean, finished presentation.
The kit features sharply moulded superstructure components, torpedo mounts, gun turrets and deck fittings that suit the distinctive look of the Fletcher class. Surface detail is crisp throughout, and the proportions of the ship translate well at this larger scale, offering the modeller plenty of opportunity for additional detailing, subtle weathering or a fresh naval finish. Once assembled, the model measures approximately 573.8 mm long and 60.5 mm wide, giving it an impressive footprint without becoming unwieldy on the shelf.

History
The Fletcher-class destroyers were among the most versatile and successful surface combatants of the Second World War. USS Stevens (DD-479) belonged to this prolific class, serving in the Pacific with operations ranging from escort duties to shore bombardment and fleet screening. Known for their speed, firepower and adaptability, Fletcher-class destroyers played a vital role from 1942 onward and formed a backbone of post-war naval service in numerous countries.
USS Stevens carried the typical armament and configuration of the class, making the ship an excellent subject for modellers interested in US naval operations during the Second World War and the evolution of destroyer design during the period.
