Victrix Plastic Miniatures
Scots/Picts Warriors (28mm)
This 28mm plastic miniature set from Victrix represents warriors from two important historical groups, the Picts of the Late Roman period and the Scots of the Viking Age. The set provides a flexible selection of unarmoured warriors suitable for a wide range of tabletop wargames and historical scenarios set in northern Britain and Ireland.
The figures can be assembled with a variety of weapons including long spears, javelins, swords and axes, allowing units to be built as close formation spear lines, shield walls or loose skirmishers. Distinctively shaped Pict shields are included, adding character and historical flavour to the models. History:
The Picts, often referred to as the “Painted People”, dominated much of northern Scotland from around the 3rd century AD. Known for their raids against Roman and Romano British territories, they frequently threatened the northern frontiers of Roman Britain. Their warriors fought primarily with long spears supported by javelins and were capable of forming disciplined formations that could even resist cavalry attacks.
From the 5th century onward, groups known as the Scots began crossing from Ireland into western Scotland where they established the kingdom of Dál Riata. Over time the influence of the Scots expanded and eventually merged with the Pictish kingdoms. By the 9th century the two cultures were united under the rule of Kenneth MacAlpin, forming the foundation of the medieval Kingdom of Scotland.
